The Coracle: A Mythic Rites of Passage Mentorship-Correct Links!
The Journey of a Modern Mystic
I receive rain from the moon.
I am the oracle of silence.
Mysteries pass through my skin
To be revealed on the unimagined shore.
I am the safe passage over the dark ocean.
I will carry you where you need to go.
—The Prayer of the Coracle
Hey Friends, the first version of this post I sent out had some problems with the links, so I’m sending it again now that I’ve corrected those errors. They are good to go now! Sorry about that, and thanks always for being here.
—Jen
Dear Readers,
It is a genuine delight to announce that the portals to The Coracle are officially open!
I’ve been developing this offering for the past year in private with clients, who, being a romantic, I refer to as voyagers, and have been awestruck at how this translation of my path to embodiment and alignment with purpose has transformed the lives of those who’ve I had the honor to guide through this journey. I will share here a testimonial from one voyager that makes my heart swell with gratitude when I read it, but first I want to share a little more about how The Coracle functions in the world. For those of you who want to go right to my site to read in-depth and enroll, here’s a link you can follow right now:
The Coracle is a holistic voyage. It operates on many levels and in many dimensions, and is a truer reflection of the actual quantum nature of reality than a traditional mentorship or coaching program that focuses on helping you get to where you want to go. It’s not about getting anywhere, although you will certainly travel. The Coracle is about finding, and anchoring in, a state of being, that will open your heart to the actions you need to take that will result in you being carried to the place you need and are meant to go.
I realize what I just wrote is very left-brained, while still being somewhat vague. When pressed, I say The Coracle is for modern humans raised in cultures that did not provide them with initiation or the rites of passage necessary to become soul-embodied adults who know their place in the world, and make their unique contributions to their communities, human and beyond. This journey is not just about connecting to yourself. It’s about becoming a cosmic citizen who thinks in terms of how all you do affects everything in creation. (But to do that, while being in a human body, we have to begin with the self.)
The Coracle is grounded in a structure I received, and am sharing with permission, from Mū Hawaiian descendant and lineage carrier, Ke’oni Hanalei, and is carried on Indo-European myths and folk tales, the stories that carry the coded wisdom of my own lost indigenous roots.
As an American descendent of colonizers, my indigenous roots are shallow. I’ve been doing my best to remedy that my entire life, especially through my years of living on Block Island, where I re-wilded my soul and came back up from the Underworld journey that occurred my first time visiting the Big Island in 1994. (If you’re interested in that journey please read my book, Piko: A Return to the Dreaming, available through all online booksellers or order at your local shop.)
Those years on Block Island, I surged through great Hokusai waves of grief about the loss of being deeply-rooted through generations to a place. I also felt guilt at being a descendant of colonizers and was haunted by the Manisses, the indigenous people who had named the small island after themselves. Actually, now that I think about it, they could have named themselves after the island. Manisses means “Island of the Little God.”
There were years I felt my life was meant to be a sacrifice to them, that I would always exist in the shadows, on the edge of the village like an old witch, that I would never find a place where I would be truly seen, and my gifts valued in the world.
Which led to my move to Hawai’i, where I descended into more guilt at becoming a colonizer myself.
Still, Moku o Keawe, called, the island beneath the Big Island, the colonizer name. Over the years, this land has pulled me down, and the ocean has lifted me up and spun me in numerous whirlpools, and five years ago when I met Ke’oni (on Instagram!), I stepped on the path that has led to The Coracle.
It’s true. I will never be truly indigenous to a place. But my indigenous soul is not lost. It was returned to me by deer and snowy owls, bladderwrack and Atlantic tide pools, and when I expanded into that inner space, it carried me to lava fields, dolphins, whale song, and rolling aqua Pacific swells.
I may be a modern human with shallow roots to a place, but my soul is deeply rooted now. How I came to this, is what The Coracle is about. It is my process, a merging of myth and Mū, deeply respectful and aware of the possibility of exploiting both, committed to honoring the lineages where this wisdom has come from, while recognizing the hour is late, at least for humans. If we want to continue on to the exaltation of the human experiment instead of wiping ourselves out, we need to be bold. In other words, even though I’m nervous about offering this as a colonizer, I’m doing it, because frankly, I know it’s needed now.
If you are interested in this journey, it would be a deep honor to speak with you on a discovery call or through email. Please reach out.
I do want to note that The Coracle is not a course on Mū wisdom teachings. I am offering, with Brother Ke’oni’s permission, a structure of conscious soul embodiment that he himself has updated for the modern world from the Mū teachings. If you want to learn more about Mū, I can’t recommend working directly with Brother enough. He offers live ceremonies, shares a wealth of ike (wisdom) on his website, and is very active (and entertaining!) on Instagram.
I realize I have been defining The Coracle a lot by what is not, but in this time of watered down teachings and cultural appropriation, I want to be really clear about what I am offering and how I have come to grant myself the authority to offer this journey. Ultimately, we all must grant ourselves the permission to be who we are meant to be on a soul level. This does not always align with what our cultures and societies dictate, and can be difficult. Mistakes will be made, people will be offended. It is our task to look within and make the corrections when needed. I now humbly offer the result of my journey, full of the wisdom gleaned from alchemizing my mistakes into gold.
Please reach out through booking a discovery call on my website or emailing me if you are interested in The Coracle. And I would be honored if you’d share this email with any friends who you think would be interested in journeying with me.

One Woman’s Journey With The Coracle
“I am wholesomely impressed by my experience of my transformation within the Coracle.
What is being offered is a Holy offering—a significant contribution to a person’s ability to show up for themselves, to represent themselves in a true divine expression of who they came to be. Who they are in this life.
Within this journey, I was guided through ancient traditional stories into the internal tapestry of the self. The medicine within the stories exposed the truth necessary to bring healing and balance to parts of my being that had been distorted by the oppression of social and personal constraints. Often, parts of myself that had become hidden within my psyche and difficult to access.
The Coracle is a modern-day ceremony. Exquisitely created to work in tandem with seemingly mundane daily existence. I am blown away by the power of transformation that results from the facilitation. The vast space of magic opens, reaching out of the stories, infusing their wisdom into the actions of my thoughts, heart and actions of waking life.
Jen is a master at her craft, a medicine woman using intuition combined with her seasoned relationships with the stories and poetic verse to extract the medicine that will support the individual process of the mentee.
Her ability to take care, listen, and dedicate a safe ceremonial space throughout the duration of the Coracle could not be more impeccable. Thanks to Jen’s efforts, I have been granted what has up until this moment felt incomplete within my personal growth process. I have been granted a truly honorable acknowledgment of my rights of passage—moving from the mainstream adolescence into the exalted mystic. Here I stand, claiming my power and full expression of my truth. I am forever grateful to be held in Jen’s grace and integrity through this pinnacle transition aboard the Coracle.”

Piko: A Return to the Dreaming
“Jennifer Lighty is the real thing and has done us a great service with Piko. A modern woman working intuitively to contact mythic ground. The language is fresh and imaginative, her intention five fathoms deep. I’m so glad she exists, and that she has turned some of her life’s work into a gift that we can cradle in our hands and feel the benefit.”
